3rd Edition of International Obesity and Metabolism Conference 2027

Scientific Sessions - IOMC 2027

Metabolic Flexibility and Energy Homeostasis

The concept of metabolic flexibility refers to an individual’s capacity to modify fuel use depending on their nutritional state, level of physical activity, fasting state, and energy needs. This session will review the way in which metabolic flexibility impacts energy homeostasis and the possible relationship between poor metabolic flexibility and metabolic problems.

The topics to be addressed will include: substrate oxidation, glucose and lipid metabolism, energy expenditure, insulin sensitivity, mitochondrial function, fasting versus fed metabolic states, metabolism during exercise, and the regulation of energy balance. Scientists may also address laboratory and clinical tools that have been used to measure metabolic flexibility.

This session will address the role that metabolic flexibility might play in providing metabolic care on a personalized basis. The participants at the International Conference on Obesity and Metabolism will discuss ways in which nutrition, physical activity, sleep, metabolic approaches, and novel technologies can help with this understanding.
